Applying for a UK visitor visa, step by step

The online form, the appointment and the wait, in pictures.

The pictures with the form and the Submit button use a test portal and a fictional specimen passport. The official site looks different, but the steps are the same.

1. 1

   Open the right website

   visas-immigration.service.gov.uk, signed in to your own account.

   Tip: Type it or use the button on your Faylo page.

   Have these ready

   Your own UKVI account, passport, trip details and documents.

   Your details fill in

   Name, passport and trip details appear on each page.

   The personal questions are yours

   Yes/no questions and 'I certify' boxes stay empty and highlighted.

   Tip: Answer them yourself, truthfully.

   Know the fee and the wait

   GBP 135 for up to 6 months. About 3 weeks.

   Tip: The visa centre may charge its own service fees. Check before you pay.

   Then, outside the form

   Appointment, fingerprints and photo, then the decision.

   Tip: Apply at most 3 months before you travel.

   You pay and press Submit

   We never do. Keep the confirmation.

   Tip: Never invent or alter documents. A false one can mean a ban.
