Before you fly
- Install before you leave home, on Wi-Fi β not in the departure lounge.
- Keep your usual SIM in the phone for calls and OTP texts from home; turn off its data roaming so it can't bill you.
- Use your Faylo data for registration week: campus Wi-Fi sign-up, banking apps, maps and calling family.
- Many budget Android phones β including a lot of Tecno, Infinix and itel models β don't support eSIM yet. Dial *#06# and look for a 32-digit EID before you pay.
Common questions
How much data will I need for my first few weeks?
Maps, messaging and admin apps run light (100β300 MB a day); video calls home add up faster (roughly 0.5β1 GB an hour). A plan in the 10β20 GB range comfortably covers registration week; use campus or accommodation Wi-Fi once you're settled.
Do I need a local number for my student bank account or university registration?
Possibly, for SMS verification β Faylo's eSIM adds data only, not a local UK or Canadian phone number. Most students sort a local SIM or number once they've got a bank account and address; the eSIM is what keeps you online in the meantime.
Can I switch to a local SIM later and keep the eSIM?
Yes β most phones that support eSIM can run it alongside a physical SIM at once. Faylo just adds a data line; it doesn't replace your main number.
What if my phone doesn't support eSIM?
Check before you pay: dial *#06# and look for a 32-digit EID. If it isn't there, don't buy β and if something still goes wrong after you've paid, message us on WhatsApp and we'll refund you if your phone genuinely can't use it.
