Mozambique visa for South African passport holders

No visa needed

South African passport holders don't need a visa for Mozambique

Short tourist and business stays don't need a visa. Longer stays, work and study usually do.

Heads up: Mozambique launched a new eVisa and eTA portal on 11 February 2026. Nigerian passport holders cannot apply through it: Mozambique's own portal says to apply at the nearest Mozambican embassy or consulate instead. Ghana, Cรดte d'Ivoire and Senegal passports need an eTA for stays up to 30 days. Some African neighbours (including Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa) need no visa for 30 or 90 days.

From official sources

Timing: Apply online before you fly, print the approval and carry it for boarding and arrival

Validity: eTA and visa-free stays: 30 days (90 for some neighbours); tourist or business eVisa: up to 90 days

What you'll typically need

  • A passport valid for at least six months from the day you arrive, with blank pages
  • Proof of onward or return travel
  • A yellow fever vaccination certificate โ€” many African countries ask for it, especially if you've been in an affected country

Typical requirements, not a guarantee โ€” the destination decides.

Key rules for Mozambique were checked against Mozambique eVisa & eTA official portal in October 2026. Individual passport results come from Passport Index data as of February 2026, corrected where official sources disagreed. Rules change, so always check the official source before you pay or book. Questions

Do South African citizens need a visa for Mozambique?

South African passport holders don't need a visa for Mozambique. Short tourist and business stays don't need a visa. Longer stays, work and study usually do. Confirm on Mozambique eVisa & eTA portal (National Immigration Service) before you pay or book, because entry rules change.

Should I use an agent to get a Mozambique visa?

Only if you want someone to handle the paperwork for you. Government fees are the same whether or not you use an agent, and agents add their own fee on top โ€” sometimes more than the visa itself. Check that the government fee is listed separately and avoid agents who ask for payment to a personal account.
